Susan Hutchings Local poet

Susan was born in Stogumber and lives in Minehead. She has only tried her hand at writing poetry in the last three years. Her work appears in Boats Against The Current, Voices Unbound, The Jawbone Journal, Rough Diamond Poetry and Sea Crow Press. Her poems were shortlisted at Burnham Book Festival 2024, 2025 & 2026, and she won third place in the Coleridge Poetry Prize 2025 for her poem Birch Cleave Wood.

She is surrounded by sea and beautiful haunting countryside which inspire her writing.  She enjoys walking, bird watching, gardening, travelling, folklore and gives presentations on local and general history.

Susan published her first Poetry Pamphlet a few months ago "West Somerset, explore locations in verse" specifically to raise funds for Minehead Library.
